Impact Hub Istanbul is a workspace for motivated teams to develop projects for social impact. They currently support several humanitarian causes and seek the ideal methods for accomplishing their project goals. In an effort to expand their outreach platform, they’re holding a presentation called Introduction to VR as part of their Hub101 Series. This is meant to foster potential partnerships between the VR developers at VRFirst of BAU and people working in awareness campaigns for social good.

VR developer Michael Barngrover and VRFirst lab coordinator Kutsal Mustafaoglu will be speaking about the VR lab and VR technology generally. My own presentation will cover how VR/360 has been used for social messaging so far. I will cover the rationale behind trends in VR/360 for awareness and evaluate them based on their merits. Disclaimer: I will be highly critical about a few such projects, but this does not reflect my opinions about the cause they promote as I’m likely to be a supporter of them.

My presentation will cover topics such as:

The Intersection of Current Events and Current Technology

Using VR for Non-Linear Storytelling

Empathy Related Risks

The Relative Merits of 360 vs. Standard Video

I will be discussing several examples of social messaging in 360/VR. Here are a few examples of projects that I like and will be praising during the presentation:

The event will take place on 4 July at 18:30 in Impact Hub Istanbul. Those who are interested in these topics but cannot be in Istanbul that day may cantact me through Twitter or Linkedin.
